About Shaw Neilson

 

Born John Shaw Neilson in 1872 in South Australia of poor Scottish immigrants.  He had a congenital eye condition, which meant he was unable to read for himself after his early thirties.  He worked as a labourer.  

From the 1890's he sent work to 'The Bulletin' in Sydney.
